MDO: Frequently Asked Questions

MDO Handbook 2022-2023

DOES LMPC HAVE A CHILD PROTECTION POLICY IN PLACE?

Yes, we have a detailed policy in place for all church staff and volunteers. All MDO staff have gone through a thorough screening, including a background check.

DO YOU HAVE A CURRICULUM FOR THE TEACHERS TO FOLLOW?

Teachers follow a Bible and Academic Curriculum both of which are designed to be age-appropriate for each class. Bible stories are shared each day and classroom activities are often based on the lessons. Many classes work on Scripture memory as well as how to apply Bible truths. Each class incorporates age-appropriate activities to promote development and growth in areas of fine and gross motor skills, problem solving, color/shape/letter recognition, creative thinking, etc. Special themes throughout the year focus on things such as community helpers, the four seasons, nature, and reading.

Classes participate in a Music and PE class each day as well as work on listening, following directions, playing well with others, decision making and other social skills.

The Pre-K classes focus on skills to prepare children for kindergarten including phonics, mathematics, science and handwriting. A complete list of Pre-K Curriculum Standards is available at Open House.

DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE POTTY TRAINED IN ORDER TO ATTEND MDO?

We recognize that children reach this milestone at different ages. However, all children enrolled in any of the Pre-K (ages 4-5) classes are required to be fully potty trained.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD IS ILL?

If your child has had a fever or has thrown up within 24 hours of MDO, we ask that you keep them at home until they are symptom free for 24 hours. We will contact you during the day if we see symptoms of a possible contagious illness such as a green runny nose, excessive coughing, rash, or fever.

WHAT ARE THE DETAILS SURROUNDING DROP OFF AND PICK UP?

Children may arrive in the building no earlier than 9:00 a.m. when the doors are unlocked. Teachers arrive earlier and need the time to prepare for the day. Parents walk in for drop off and pick up for those classes that meet in the Nursery wing of the building. The Pre-K students are dropped off and picked up in the carpool line. Pick-up time is 2:00 p.m. The classroom teachers will keep your child in the room until 2:05, after which your child will wait in the MDO office and a $5 late fee will be assessed. If you are running late, please call the MDO office so that we can reassure your child that you are on your way.

WHEN AND TO WHOM DO I MAKE TUITION PAYMENTS?

Tuition payments are paid to LMPC/MDO and are due the first of the month (September – May). Payments are considered late after the 10th of the month, at which time a late fee of $5 will be charged. Payments may be made in the form of a check, an online payment from your bank, or through Venmo.

ARE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?

A limited number of scholarships are available based on financial need. Applications are available on our website. Applications are due by the end of May each year.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS INCLEMENT WEATHER?

MDO follows the Hamilton County School system’s decision for closing during inclement weather. We also watch school closings for Walker County and CCS. We email and text MDO families once we have made a final decision about a delay or a closing.
