The Grace of Giving
Grace gives. Grace does not fuel grasping or greed. Grace begets grace. As Paul appeals for gifts from the Corinthian church, he stands on the foundation of grace, saying, “We want you to know about the grace of God that has been given among the churches.” Paul’s call to give comes not as one ashamed but as one assured that they “know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.” He anticipates cheerful giving because “God is able to make all grace abound so that they may abound in every good work.” Gladness in giving is directly tied to gladness for grace, as Paul exclaims at the end of his appeal, “Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift.” Indeed, the grace of Jesus is a gift, and those who know grace give generously. This series will lead us to discover that the core issue is not so much about our giving but about our embrace of God’s grace.
